Community Centre

A Place to Connect, Participate and Belong

A welcoming and inclusive space to connect with others and take part.

The Unity Aid Community Centre offers meaningful activities and support tailored to each person’s interests and needs.

What It Is

The Unity Aid Community Centre is somewhere to go, not a service delivered to you.

Who Can Attend

Who Comes to the Centre

Programs run separately for different groups, so people attend alongside others at a similar stage. Some come one day a week, some more. What you join in with is up to you.

What Happens Here

Five Kinds of Activity

The week is built from five kinds of activity. Nobody has to join in with all of them, and most people settle into two or three.

/001

Social and Recreational

Games, music, films and the occasional celebration. Group games, music, movies, celebrations, cultural events, social groups, and morning and afternoon tea.

/002

Creative

Making things, with your hands, at your own pace. Arts and crafts, painting, flower arranging, sewing or textile activities, jewellery-making, and seasonal projects.

/003

Health and Wellbeing

Gentle movement and time to look after yourself. Gentle exercise, chair-based movement, walking groups, relaxation activities, wellbeing discussions, and healthy lifestyle activities.

/004

Life Skills and Independence

Practical things, learned by doing them. Cooking activities, meal preparation, shopping skills, technology support, communication activities, and building confidence in everyday tasks.

/005

Community Participation

Getting out, together. Local outings, cafés and restaurants, parks and gardens, shopping centres, cultural events, libraries, and community festivals.

Respite

A Break That Works Both Ways

A day at the centre is a good day for the person attending. It also gives the family a real break.

Our centre-based programs provide meaningful engagement for clients while giving families and carers time to rest, attend appointments or manage other responsibilities.
